Plant Dyed Alpaca Scarf

210.00

Pure alpaca woolen scarf, handmade by indigenous Quechua women in Peru; using knowledge of natural plant dyes, that has been handed down for thousands of years.

Each scarf is handmade and all are an original design, with individual patterns and meanings!
This is a vast but disappearing indigenous knowledge, that the women of Chinchero are working hard to pass on the the younger generations. Help support these outstanding efforts by purchasing your own piece of handmade Peruvian artwork.

A growing factory-made fakes industry, is making it hard for these women to compete in the Peruvian market (one scarf takes up to three months to create by hand!).

So it’s so very important to support the women who are still practicing their culture and working to keep this amazing art alive.
